

VoIP Glossary
- ADSL: Asynchronous (asymmetrical) Digital Subscriber Line
- Contention Ratio: The maximum number of subscribers vying for the down and upload speeds at that exchange
- Download: The network see downloading as browsing. The download speed on a service is the browsing speed
- IP PBX: IP - Internet Protocol | PBX - Private Branch Exchange - IP PBX is a business telephone system designed to deliver voice over a data network whilst also integrating with the standard analogue phone network.
- ISP: Internet Service Provider; company that offers its customers access to the Internet
- LLU: Local Loop Unbundling; where a network provider has equipment within the local exchange to ransfer calls and data via their own local network
- MAC code: This stands for Migration Access Code and allows you to switch between broadband suppliers on your existing telephone line.
- Router/Modem: Apparatus designed to convert digital streams into standard signalling to pass over standard voice wires. Also hosts account information for access to the specified internet network
- SDSL: Synchronous (symmetrical) Digital Subscriber Line
- SIP Trunk: A SIP trunk is a service offered by an ITSP (Internet Telephony Service Provider) that permits businesses that have a PBX installed to use Voice-over-IP (VoIP).
- Upload: Upload speed is the speed the network offers to you to download items to your PC
- VoIP: Voice over Internet Protocol - transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over IP networks such as the Internet
